There is nothing much to add to the plot in itself the events have already been narrated in history more than enough times , and Santiago Posteguillo achieves to pull into the book in the same manner as in the first part of this trilogy the perfect balance between historical fiction and historical accuracy.
It is the perfect continuation for it, and also offers a great way of recapping what previously happened in the previous book and following historical events. It also further includes diagrams of the battles and the particular events that took within them, making the action heavier in this volume than in the previous one all the easier to follow.
The writing style within the book is probably one of the reasons why I ended up enjoying it as much as I did. I love history, particularly that of the Roman Empire. Fiction books of this genre, however, typically fail at succeeding at one point or another. It provides a reason for me to usually avoid reading historical novels, but Posteguillo succeeds in balancing things out perfect.
Further, the writing style of the novel manages both events and characters brilliantly. It succeeds in being even better in this aspect than the first book, neither feeling too short or too long, and gets into exactly the perfect amount of detail for the main characters. In conclusion? It is both fascinating and entertaining, and impossible to put down from the very first page. Very emotional too; covers from to and Zama, though the focus is on Scipio so we see Metaurus as aftermath mostly and other important events as snippets; while the first volume had the deaths of the elder Scipios in battle,l especially of Gnaeus, here we have Marcellus final stand against Hannibal The author takes the "inspired and favored by gods" line with Scipio from Livy and leaves the general somewhat enigmatic to the end.
Volume 3 which alternates current events from on with Scipio's memoirs after his retreat from politics is on the tap now Jan 25, Daniel T rated it it was amazing. When I started reading "Africanus; el hijo del consul", I did not expect that I would immediately follow with the second book of Santiago Posteguillo's fascinating trilogy.
Just as was the case with the first book, I just could not put down "Las Legiones Malditas". Santiago Posteguillo's in-depth historical research, the manner in which he brings historical figures to life, and his fluid writing style are just fascinating. Excellent blend of historical accuracy with fictional fillers to make his When I started reading "Africanus; el hijo del consul", I did not expect that I would immediately follow with the second book of Santiago Posteguillo's fascinating trilogy.

The Zama battle is just superb. You just can't stop reading because the very nature of the written text does not allow you lose pace.

Dec 05, Sylvie rated it really liked it. It took me a lot to read this book. Not because it was boring , no no no I can only admire the patience and dedication of the author to write these series of 3 huge historical books. I enjoyed reading it and getting so much information about Scipion Africanas.
I will continue with the 3rd volume asap. Feb 22, Omar rated it liked it. Good story and storytelling.
Interesting description of the roman characters and events. This does not apply for the Carthaginian characters. Anibal was not described with the same enthusiasm as his counterparts. The main drawback: the author's technique to make the reader remember the characters and events is constantly and merciless repetition. Aug 03, Marcela rated it it was amazing.
